Not enough people talk about how great of an actor Paul Dano is! He is so versatile and always fascinating to watch. There is a scene in Love & Mercy in which he portrays a young Brian Wilson that effectively communicates his descent into mental illness through his fixation on the strings in "Good Vibrations"; I think about it every time I hear that song.
i have been seriously considering doing a watch of Paul Dano's entire filmography next! I've enjoyed this experience of working my way through Dakota's so much, and I think Paul Dano would be a great candidate for a similar study
loveeee getting into these planner details. I am trying the Sofia Coppola planner this year. She has space devoted to things you want to do the next year--books, movies, and inexplicably hotels? Like hotels has the same number of lines for planning as books? As if a person's classic yearly breakdown includes watching the same number of movies as luxury hotel experiences???
This was so wonderful! Wednesdays are made so much better by this newsletter.
I so wish I had the ability to plan my day like that! In awe of you!!
Intro by the XX is such a fucking comforting song. Hunter Harris’s Substack with all the Bennifer stuff is incredible - highly agree.
When I read Flowers for Algernon in the 10th grade that book never ever left me. I think about it all the time. Sometimes I feel like I was the only person that read it so happy to hear that’s not the case!
it is definitely one of those books you'll just always think about!! I love Hunter's analysis of the two different kinds of Leos -- the J Los (openly high-maintenance) and the Bens (secretly high-maintenance but pretend not to be lol)
Oh, also, re: fundraisers, I saw Melissa Whitney is co-organizing one. And I feel like I saw someone else post about one too (possibly the same one? Idk, my mind is a sieve)
I love your newsletters about The Process. You are a level of organized I can only dream of aspiring to! My planner? A two-month wet erase calendar tacked up on the laundry room door. My notebook? Employer swag with a Book It sticker over their logo bragging about being one of the top companies to work for in Arizona. (I question that selection process.) All I have going for me is a robust use of gmail's labels and snooze function.
I love seeing the planner and reading about your process! Also I’ve been wanting to go to Tombolo, it seems so cute—it’s about 3.5 hours away but next time I’m around I’m definitely stopping by.
I live for people's daily habits spiels--this was so satisfying to read. The level of your put-together-ness is honestly intimidating. YNAB to start the day??? I'm shaking my head over here, but out of respect. Also I haven't read Temple of Swoon yet, but that Pringles line is gonna make me bump it up the TBR, lol!
Great newsletter. I confess, I didn't know who Dakota J was. I see she'll be in the screen adaptation of Verity, which I'll bet you have thoughts about! I got schooled years ago by a veteran romance reader about why she threw that book across the room in disgust. Personally I loved it, but I also get the HEA betrayal. I prefer the uncertainty over the inherent spoiler, unless I'm in a mood. Similar to a blues song pattern, where you just know the chords are going to resolve. If the song is in A, I can predict a D and E will appear, but we're going to come back to A, right? Ah... we love our comfort foods lol.
my only thoughts honestly about Dakota in Verity are . . . awesome! More Dakota! and I went into Verity knowing it wasn't a romance so the lack of HEA didn't bother me at all -- I think for whatever reason Colleen Hoover gets put with romance a lot, which is sometimes a mistake because then people go in with different expectations
I splurge every year on a Kate Spade planner. Before that I did what you did, a DIY bullet journal. For book journaling, I use my Remarkable 2 (I love it but am scared to leave the house with it-- what if I drop it) or write in an arty notebook with a Univision pen.
I love Sharpie S-Gel pens
they're superior! they really don't smear! but are still nice and bold!

That's great idea! And you'd get to see a wide range of his acting. He has some fantastic hidden gems like Ruby Sparks, Swiss Army Man and Dumb Money.

I'm halfway through Cher The Memoir Part One on audio and it is a wild ride. I highly recommend it if you are in any way a Cher fan.
oh I will absolutely be listening to it at some point!

That's a long drive so I totally get it, but I do hope you make it out! It's SUCH a cute store, and everyone who works there is lovely.
I’ve been listening to the audio version of Cher’s memoir and it’s so good!!
I just bought a new set of midliners to ring in the new year.
oooooh midliners! you're reminding me I should buy another set of those. And I will definitely be listening to Cher's memoir this year, mark my words.
