Your characters always have the best names!!! Phoebe and Daphne have always felt like the type of name where if that were my name I'd be alluring and problem free. Likely because of Friends and What A Girl Wants? Or maybe it's not because of anything and I'd just be much better as either of those gals!
I actually love the name Jane!! Watch me use it one day!!! But I totally hear you on feeling like you could be a totally different person with a different name. Like would I suddenly be hot af if my name was Persephone?! Who's to say, but probably!!
I also grew up in a house without cable, but always devoured it when at friends' houses. My best friend in high school recorded a bunch of stuff on a VHS tape for me: music videos, Beavis & Butthead, Daria, and many random inside jokes. I haven't watched it in ages (can't remember the last time I had a VCR) but cherish it to this day.
That is the BEST gift I can possibly think of!!! And honestly those B&B episodes with the full music in them are pretty valuable -- what I wouldn't give! Now any version you can buy or get streaming usually has a lot of the music cut out because they couldn't get the licensing rights.
I am always so down for the how the sausage gets made trivia. Which is why I am still waiting for your podcast, Behind the Steam with Alicia Thompson. (Eventually I will land on the correct pun title.)
Literally yesterday the thought "Phoebe, Daphne...she needs a Penelope" came out of my bingo tumbler cage of a brain, so apparently how you name your characters was also on my mind. 😂
my wednesday morning routine is to read AAM and then your newsletter and that you named a character after Alison is just one of the many reasons i KNOWWWW we'd get on great
This is such an elite Wednesday morning routine! My routine every single weekday is to read AAM with my coffee. I love that blog so much and am sure we could talk about our favorite posts for hours.
First of all - Name is such a great song. I save it for when I'm a certain kind of sad/moody and need to like take a walk in the rain or drive somewhere in the rain and it's perfect.
This line absolutely killed me:
I stg half the guys I crushed on in elementary through high school were named Chris (AND IN THE END ONLY MAYBE ONE-EIGHTH OF THOSE DESERVED IT).
Why is this so true?!
Thank you for writing. This is consistently such a fun read. I can't wait for your next book!
Ooooh this song is PERFECT for driving in the rain. And thank you for reading the newsletter and saying such kind things! Non-cable-havers unite!! Don't talk to me about Doug! Don't talk to me about Rugrats! No, I didn't watch Clarissa Explains It All I just like the memes!!
My dream house -- the house I live in when I tell myself sleep stories!-- is down the road from Annabelle's mom's. (Annabelle and I were at Gannett at overlapping times but don't know each other.) I just recently wrote about the British doctor who propagated mangoes all over that part of Fort Myers in the 1880s! The book was so good!

That is a bummer; those two riffing on music videos was always my favorite part of the show!

haha I really need your brain working on the correct pun title because I haven't found it!
And I love the name Penelope so now you've got me thinking . . .
I was thinking about it when I couldn't fall back asleep at 4 am, and the best of that batch is Alicia Thompson In Conversation with...
