I always feel compelled to respond to your newsletters, lol, there are just so many good conversation starters in these babies, but I have to state first and foremost that Tubthumping by Chumbawumba is my all time top I'll-walk-out-of-a-grocery-store song on my lifetime do not play list. The listing of drinks, the weird soprano interlude on pissing the night away, I just want to THROW THINGS.
Oh, the UB40 version for sure. If I can't change the radio fast enough, I will straight up turn it off. Even silence and my own thoughts are preferable to that song.
This has led to a lot of thinking about more songs that are on my life's Do Not Play list, and I thought of one that rivals Tubthumping: Billy Joel's River of Dreams. oh. my. GOD. It makes me upset just thinking about it.
I love these mysteries! I don't actually know what brand our TV is, but we went through a similar mystery recently, when we were like "Why does this always default to Hell's Kitchen?!" Nobody in our family watches it, why was it ALWAYS what came on?? Turns out it just defaults to what channel it was last on and because we never changed it, it was always that.
ahhh haha I could see that. This definitely has some contract with Heartland because that's not on any channel we would default to, it's just always on!
I am choosing to (very egotistically) believe that I am the Audrey in this short story and I AM SO EXCITEDDDDDD; hope things work out with that taciturn owner
OMG my parents recently went through a Heartland phase and watched the whole thing in like...three months. No idea what the show is about though, just thought that was a fun coincidence! Congrats on A Classic Case!
I love everything about this newsletter!! The mysteries!! They were all so fun to read about. Reminds me of my own little unsolved mysteries in life. (Where did that green notebook go?? Where did the $10 I found in my sock come from?!?!)
I was able to listen to A Classic Case at work the other day, and I loved it! I too have gone through an Audrey Hepburn obsession (mostly in high school), and I’d also probably jump to a dramatic conclusion about someone changing their routine. One of my little mysteries that I’ve tried solving is about Bittersweet Symphony! I know I’ve watched a movie where the ending pans out with that song playing, but I can’t find anything online. It drives me crazy every time I hear the song. And now it’s probably going to be stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
My Audrey Hepburn obsession was also in high school! And I think you might be thinking of Cruel Intentions, which did use that song to great effect I will allow. It almost makes me like the song. ALMOST.

Tubthumping is number two on my list!! Surpassed only by "Red Red Wine"
The UB40 version or Neil Diamond--it matters!
PLEASE if there is a lover of the UB40 version, out yourself here and I will unsubscribe you myself

oh no Laura did you know that canonically I LOVE that song
Alicia, I actually like Bittersweet Symphony, lolol
We can still be friends, right? I guess we know each other's kryptonite now.
From the same era, mine is "All Star."

I mean, it's a great name!!! And I can't give any spoilers . . .
it IS a great name! Sure sure I will read it for myself, no spoilers makes sense

Whoa one thing I do know about Heartland is that it ran for a LONG time so three months is quite impressive!
Yeah it's wild lol. They are very serious about their shows sometimes!!

Okay I do want to know about the $10 in your sock!!!

That’s the one that usually comes up online, but I’ve actually never seen Cruel Intentions. At this point I’m starting think I made it up lol
Also, I'm totally sold on this mystery compilation now and very much want to read.
okay four things:
1 I JUST finished A Classic Case and loved it, then immediately picked up my phone to read this post.
2. Honestly I’m shocked you hate Bittersweet Symphony so much, that has to be the strongest reaction anyone’s ever had to that song.
3. “Reckless squandering of time,” wow. But he’s right!!!
4. I laughed out loud at the Heartland stuff. You could write a whole newsletter about Heartland and I’d read it.
Just read A Classic Case the other day, obsessed with Audrey and Grant and the spoiled cat!
