I love that picture of you! Yes, I think we would've been friends in high school, swapping CDs.
The CD Im holding is a compilation album KROQ put out for charity around Christmas. That one is called The Real Slim Santa and it has My December by Linkin Park
Julie’s new book sounds amazing! I am such a sucker for a “one that got away” story AND that aughts nostalgia. And look at you making me laugh (the Barbie arm smoking shenanigans) and tear up (Ron McNair was right about playing music in space!!) in the same newsletter.
What a fun interview! Definitely adding her book to my TBR. I also love Cunk on Earth, it is so unserious and good for a laugh. Definitely what I need rn :I
I also read Challenger, and it made me reflect a lot about the type of people who choose to go to space and how singular and impressive they are. Ron McNair in particular was a standout because of his belief in art and how he connected with others through it. It’s also a story about human frailty and how a culture of imperviousness can lead to disaster. I cried for all those people who raised the alarms time and time again about the problems with the shuttle. I finished it months ago and I’m still thinking about it. The best kind of book.
carrying around an ashtray for the barbie arm is soooo good
commit to the bit!!!

Could not agree more. I'll be thinking about it for a while!!
TGMLT is so fun, very 90s teen comedy antics. I could have read a whole book of the IM chats—that was my golden era!!
Totally agree! Maybe one day Julie will bless us with some bonus content.
Oh I NEED this book.
You really do!!!
